Migration Process

Introduction

As part of this OS migration project, 4 major activities should be considered and planned for:

  1. Creation and configuration of the new TrendMiner server

  2. Upgrade of the existing TrendMiner server to 2024.R2.0

  3. Migration of application data from the existing server to the new server

  4. The project and change management to have a seamless user transition

In the following sections, each activity will be covered.

High-level Process

The migration process consists of several steps that should be executed in order. The following overview describes this process step-by-step:

  1. Creation of a new TrendMiner server based on one of the new underlying OS deployment options ("target system") and installation of TrendMiner version 2024.R2.0.

  2. Configuration of this target system

  3. Communicate a "freeze date" to the user community: any work created after this date on the source system won't be part of the migration

  4. Upgrade the existing TrendMiner server ("source system') to TrendMiner version 2024.R2.0

  5. Upgrade the Plant Integrations module to the latest version

  6. On the freeze date: Creation of a backup on the source system

  7. As soon as the backup is finished, restore it to the target system

  8. Re-configuration of some elements on the target system

  9. Validation of the target system by administrators/key users

  10. Communicate successful migration to the user community

  11. Turn off the source system

It is recommended to take server snapshots before any major activity, e.g. a snapshot of the source system before it is upgraded to 2024.R2.0, or a snapshot of the target system after the configuration but before the backup restore.
