Background
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7), the base for CentOS 7, is approaching its end of support at the end of June 2024. This means that no further updates, including critical security patches, will be available for this version of the operating system after this date. To ensure the continued security, stability, and support of the TrendMiner appliance, it is necessary to migrate to the newer, supported operating system. For TrendMiner, this means moving to RHEL9, or the derived, binary-compatible AlmaLinux OS9.
Practically speaking, this means, depending on your deployment model:
For the prepackaged virtual appliance, shipped by TrendMiner, the underlying operating system is moving from CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux OS 9
For self-managed servers, managed directly by the customer, support is moving to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL 9) and AlmaLinux OS 9
For SaaS instances, no action is needed. TrendMiner will manage the migration in coordination with the SaaS customers.
AlmaLinux OS is a free, open-source, community-driven enterprise-grade Linux distribution that is binary compatible with RHEL. It is backed by a stable and growing community, and it offers a reliable and secure platform for your TrendMiner appliance.
This guide will focus on the migration process to the new OS's. In general, there are a number of general steps that apply in all cases, and a few steps that are dependent on specific deployment models. In general, the guide is designed to provide you with all the information you need to plan, execute, and validate your migration. We understand that each environment is unique, and we're here to provide guidance and support throughout this transition.
