Create and configure the new TrendMiner Server

System Requirements

The new TrendMiner server will be the foundation for the next years of your analytics journey. As such, it is important to reflect on future growth such as the expected addition of more data sources, the adoption of powerful capabilities such as machine learning, more advanced algorithms, and the cross-asset roll-out of solutions. In the summary below, the minimal requirements are mentioned.

If it is hard to add more resources in the future (e.g. if you deploy on bare metal servers), TrendMiner recommends already adding additional buffer for these capabilities.

Comments

RAM

64GB

96GB

+ 1GB per active kernel (per user) + 256MB per notebook tile (per user per dashboard)

RAM is dynamically scaled to available services. High user and monitoring activity may impact user experience over time if available RAM is not scaled accordingly.

To maintain at least current performance, TrendMiner requires adding 32GB of additional RAM compared to your current server.

CPU

16

16

+ 1 core per 4 active kernels (per user) + 1 core per 8 notebook tiles (per user per dashboard)

For servers with high indexing activity, the available CPU's should at least match the configured simultaneous indexing threads.

Disk Size and Speed

SSD, 500GB, 250MB/s

SSD, 500GB, 250MB/s

SSD, 500GB, 250MB/s

TrendMiner is a high-intensity data application, and as such is reading and writing data continuously. Slow disk performance can impact end-user experience.

Deployment options

TrendMiner can be deployed in different ways. Note that the choice of deployment option for the new server can be different from your current deployment. It does not materially impact the migration.

The first option is to run TrendMiner as a service. In this scenario, TrendMiner will run, maintain, and update the platform as a SaaS instance. This is the preferred, future-proof deployment model. In the SaaS scenario, our teams will take care of the installation and reach out to discuss configuration and connectivity.

Tip

If you intend to move over to SaaS as part of this OS migration, please reach out to your TrendMiner contact to discuss the process.

If you prefer to (continue to) run TrendMiner as a self-hosted option, there are a few different possibilities:

  • TrendMiner offers a complete pre-packaged Virtual Appliance that can be imported and deployed in your existing virtualization environment. This is the preferred option for customers without deep Linux knowledge. The pre-packaged appliance is available on the TrendMiner download portal.

  • Alternatively, the new TrendMiner can be installed on a self-managed (bare metal or virtual) server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL9) or AlmaLinux OS 9 machine. In this scenario, the customer is responsible for managing the underlying Linux OS. This option is only recommended if the customer has deep Linux knowledge.

  • self-managed private cloud deployment based on a base Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL9) or AlmaLinux OS 9. In this scenario, the customer is responsible for managing the underlying Linux OS, and any particularities caused by default implementations of these Linux distributions on the side of the cloud provider. This option is only recommended if the customer has deep Linux knowledge and knowledge of the cloud provider.

Installation procedure

The installation procedure for the server is identical to the normal installation procedure. Please refer to the Installation Guidelines for full details.

Post-installation configuration

When the installation is complete, it is required to complete the basic configuration of the instance. Please refer to the section Step 3: Configure of the installation guide. Summarizing, the following checklist should be completed:

  • Network configuration

  • Setting the TrendMiner server name

  • Configure SSL and manage certificates

  • Extend the default disk size

  • Configure NTP

  • Configure the Mail Relay

Warning

Do NOT set up data sources or identity providers yet at this point!
