Disk Space Extension

Extending the disk is done in different ways, depending on your deployment type:

  • SaaS: TrendMiner monitors your disk space and automatically extends it if needed. If you are planning to do intense batch indexing and expect a large disk usage increase on a short time frame you can contact TrendMiner support to ask for a disk increase pro-actively.

  • Private cloud: the customer is responsible for increasing the disk space according to vendor and standard Linux guidelines.

  • On-prem: for on-prem deployments the disk space increase differs for single nodes and virtual appliances. Check this article to know if you have TrendMiner installed as a virtual appliance: How to check if TrendMiner is deployed as a virtual appliance?

    • Single node: the customer is responsible for increasing the disk space according to standard Linux guidelines.

    • Virtual appliance: follow the instructions below.

Extending the disk space on a virtual appliance

The TrendMiner Virtual Appliance contains one default hard disk of 200GB.

Warning

In case more disk space is required, do not try to extend the original virtual disk. Attach a new virtual disk to the TrendMiner Virtual Appliance. A new (para-)virtual SCSI controller could be needed.

The second data disk can be extended when more disk space is required in the future.

Notice

Extending the disk will cause a short downtime of the appliance

Summary of the procedure for disk extension:

  1. Power off the VM (bringing down TrendMiner)

  2. Add a secondary disk or extend the secondary disk size if already assigned.

  3. Power on the VM

  4. Open Edge Manager -> expand the ‘DASHBOARD’ section and click ‘Diagnostics’.

  6. Click ‘Yes, extend’ to confirm the choice.

  7. A green message on the bottom right will say ‘Triggered task to extend data disk’ and a new task 'extend-data-disk' will show up in the ‘Recent Actions’ panel on the right.

  8. Wait until the ‘extend-data-disk’ status changes to ‘SUCCESS’. TrendMiner is now able to use the extra disk space.
