On-prem → On-prem using the local backup & restore

Warning

This is not the recommended approach

With this approach, please be aware that significantly more manual work will be involved, including coordination of multiple meetings with TrendMiner Support to execute the migration steps. TrendMiner Support available on best-effort basis only.

In this scenario, you are transitioning from an on-premises CentOS7 or RHEL7-based setup to an on-premises AlmaLinux OS9 or RHEL9 setup, and you have selected to go for the local backup and restore option, against the recommendation of TrendMiner.

Important

For a full overview of pro's and con's, please check the application data migration section of this guide. Summarizing:

  • The EdgeManager Local Backup & Import will NOT restore all data! Most but not all of the application configuration and work items will be restored.

  • Tag indexes will be lost and will need to be rebuilt

Here's how you can accomplish this high level. More details will follow soon.

  1. Provision a New AlmaLinux or RHEL 9 Instance

  2. Install the TrendMiner Application (2024.R2.0) on the new AlmaLinux or RHEL 9 Instance

  3. Upgrade the source system applications

  4. Create a backup on the source system & download it

  5. [Optional] Create a list of currently indexed tags

  6. Import the TrendMiner Application Data on the target system by restoring the backup

  7. [Optional] Trigger the re-indexing of tags previously listed

  8. Test & validate the target server with a number of key users

  9. Fully switch to the target server and decommission the source system
