Why are local database backups important?

There are mainly 3 ways to backup your TrendMiner appliance data. These 3 backup types are documented in full detail: Backup types compared

So although local database backups contain the least complete dataset and they are not really suited for disaster recovery they have a few advantages compared to the other backup types:

  • They contain all information required for troubleshooting and are therefor by far the most preferred option to investigate data related issues.

  • They do not require additional configuration outside of TrendMiner. An system administrator can trigger a local database backup without additional setup or required permissions within the company.

  • Local database backups require significantly less storage space.

  • In a worst case scenario local database backups can be used as disaster recovery (not covered by standard SLA) as they contain all crucial user data.

For these reasons local database backups are important and are even considered a mandatory upgrade requirement.
