TrendMiner Operating System Change
May 22nd, 2024
This article applies to all TrendMiner customers managing their own TrendMiner setup (on-premises or in private cloud). SaaS setups will be migrated by the TrendMiner team in coordination with our SaaS customers.
Summary of previous communication
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7) and the derived CentOS 7 are nearing their end of support. To ensure continued reliability and security for TrendMiner, we are transitioning TrendMiner to run on to the long-term supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL 9) and AlmaLinux OS 9 distributions. Infrastructure could already be prepared based on these new OS’s and the new system requirements. A new pre-packaged virtual appliance image based on AlmaLinux 9 has been made available previously for this purpose.
Migration options
There are 2 options to migrate the existing server data to the new instance. Full details can be found in the dedicated sections.
Strongly recommended: Full migration including index data based on remote backup & restore (Azure Blob Storage or AWS S3 Bucket are the supported options)
Work migration excluding index data based on local backup & restore
What should you do today?
There are a number of important actions you should take to prepare for a smooth transition:
Set up the new TrendMiner infrastructure according to the new OS and system resource requirements
Ensure your existing TrendMiner instance is already upgraded to the latest version (2024.R1.x) in anticipation of the 2024.R2 release
Prepare remote storage if you opt for the full migration (strongly recommended)
Ensure access to internal resources (e.g. IT colleagues) to manage firewalls, retrieve the required certificates etc. More details on the required actions are available in the FAQs (see below).
Set up a communication plan for your internal TrendMiner community. Make sure you are able to inform end-users about upcoming downtime during the migration period.
Warning
If you intend to migrate to the new AlmaLinux OS as soon as possible when the 2024.R2.0 release is generally available, please inform our support team at support@trendminer.com. This way we can ensure proper planning for our engineers to be on standby.
Support and Assistance
As always, our support team is prepared to assist you throughout this transition. We appreciate your proactive approach to these changes and extend our gratitude for your continued trust in TrendMiner.
