TrendMiner Operating System Change
December 1st, 2023
We have important updates regarding the upcoming end of support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7) and the corresponding changes on the TrendMiner side. As you may know, RHEL 7 (or CentOS 7) has been the stable platform on which the TrendMiner server has been running for the past several years. As the end-of-support for these OS’s is coming closer (June 2024), we want to inform you on the next steps to ensure TrendMiner can continue to run in a secure and well-maintained environment.
Key Points
End of Support for RHEL 7: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 will reach its end of maintenance support in June 2024. Consequently, Red Hat will cease providing updates, patches, or security fixes for this version.
Going forward, we will switch to RHEL 9: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 is the latest version and will be supported for the next 8 years. This ensures a stable and supported platform for TrendMiner, maintaining the reliability you expect from our services.
For the prepackaged virtual appliance, the transition will be made from CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux OS. This change is made in response to recent changes in CentOS's licensing and lifecycle terms.
Deployment of New Servers
For self-managed servers: RHEL 9 is already GA and a new server based on this OS can already be deployed. Please check the system requirements below. Please note that this is only related to infrastructure preparation. TrendMiner itself cannot be installed yet on RHEL 9, see the timeline below.
New Virtual Appliance Images: We are pleased to announce that TrendMiner will release new virtual appliance images based on AlmaLinux in January 2024. These updated images will allow you to build the virtual infrastructure in advance of the migration.
Release Timeline and Migration Details
Release Date: As mentioned above, the new AlmaLinux -based images will be released in January 2024, providing ample time for you to prepare the new TrendMiner host. For self-managed servers, you can already start preparation as of today.
End-of-support for TrendMiner versions: after June 2024, TrendMiner releases will only be compatible with the new platform OS. There will be no further fixes and patches released to the old platform.
Detailed Timelines and Migration Steps: We will communicate more detailed timelines and the required steps to migrate from the existing host to the new host in due time. Our aim is to make this process as smooth as possible for you. Before the migration, it will be required to upgrade to a recent version (2024). Therefore, we recommend staying current with the TrendMiner releases. Regardless, this is good practice to stay current with security fixes and the latest capabilities.
Installation of TrendMiner on the new infrastructure : TrendMiner will make its analytics platform available for the new OS infrastructure in 2024 as well. As of today, TrendMiner cannot be installed yet on the new infrastructure.
Updated Minimum System Requirements
Since a new host will need to be built, we will be taking this opportunity to ensure the continued high performance of TrendMiner by aligning the system requirements to the more advanced and scaled-up usage patterns our customers have been adopting, and their reflection on our architecture. The new minimum required specifications for TrendMiner will be:
RAM: 64GB
vCPU: 16 (cores)
The minimal disk requirements remain the same: SSD, 200GB, 250MB/s.
Note that these specifications have already been the recommended specifications for the last 2.5 years and will now become the new minimal requirements.
Support and Assistance
Our support team is prepared to assist you throughout this transition. If you have any questions or need further assistance with the migration process or setting up the new host, please feel free to contact our support team at support@trendminer.com.
We appreciate your proactive approach to these changes and extend our gratitude for your continued trust in TrendMiner.
