Virus scanners
To ensure a smooth user experience TrendMiner does not support installing a virus scanner on the appliance.
TrendMiner performance is closely related to IO performance and typically antivirus software scans all disk IO, leading to a potentially degraded user experience.
For the same reason a virus scanner can also cause TrendMiner upgrades to fail, typically because some permission checks fail or processes time out due to the delay introduced by the antivirus process.
Some antivirus software like Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (MDATP, running as process 'mdatp') and Trend Micro AV (running as process 'ds_agent' (Deep Security Agent)) are known to bring TrendMiner performance down and/or cause failures.
The risk of having no (antivirus) AV installed is very limited, as it is not possible to upload random files to the TrendMiner applications, let alone executables. TrendMiner also does not install or run anything on the host OS through the application. The only attack vector is uploading a TrendMiner install/update package, but an attacker has admin access this is already considered a security breach.
To allow TrendMiner admins to validate the integrity of the upgrade packages checksums for these packages are provided on the TrendMiner download site.
In case your company policy requires running a specific antivirus package, please consult TrendMiner support to discuss possible mitigations.
